Private tutor in Phoenix, AZ
Education
I just graduated from the UofA (class of 2016) with a dual degree in mathematics and history, as well as a minor in Spanish. My final GPA was a 3.8 and I graduated with honors. I'm now attending graduate school to become a high school math teacher. I'm tutoring to help pay for grad school and develop my teaching skills.
Experience
I've been tutoring math for the past three years. I can tutor anything from elementary math to differential equations, though I have the most practice helping high school and college students. Tutoring is a job close to my heart, as I hope to be a teacher one day. The hands-on experience I have received from past tutoring jobs has taught me that teaching is about more than knowing the material: it's about understanding the student and communicating with them in a meaningful way. The only way to get better at this is to practice, so I deeply appreciate every opportunity I have to tutor a new student. As a history major, I must write and edit frequently. I am more than willing to work with students of all grade levels to improve their writing. I know from experience even just having someone else there makes the process easier. I also have knowledge in basic piano and music theory, and would love to impart it to anyone who is relatively new to the musical world. I took piano lessons as a child and I have made a point of refreshing my memory periodically. I also took 6 years of band in school and understand enough music theory to read any piece of music, though not enough to compose my own. If you want to know my experience/qualifications for a particular subject, feel free to ask! I try to get back to people within 24 hours.

Hobbies
I enjoy reading, writing, and playing the piano, but with the many distractions of daily life (read: the Internet) I don't do any of those as much as I should. I am currently reading Thud! by Terry Pratchett, an author my roommate recommended. On the weekends, I enjoy going to 24-hour coffeehouses with my friends and playing board games until the wee hours of the morning. My favorite games are Sentinels of the Multiverse (one of the few completely cooperative games I know), Red Dragon Inn (a cutthroat game that still manages to be silly), and Apples to Apples (you learn a lot about other people playing this game with them). I'm also a big fan of anime and Dr. Who!
