I received my undergraduate degree in elementary education from Arizona State University and my graduate degree in elementary education from Northern Arizona University. I have been teaching for more than two decades, primarily to third and fourth graders. Over the years I have earned a Structured English Immersion Certificate as well as an English as a Second Language Endorsement. My education, as well as my professional development endeavors, have given me the tools I need to work successfully with students of varying backgrounds and abilities. I primarily tutor elementary-age students in reading, writing, and math. I believe when a student has a strong foundation in the areas of reading and writing, it translates to improved academic performance in other core subjects. With math, students tend to need help learning foundational skills which prepare them for the more complex concepts they may be struggling with. As a tutor, I begin by assessing a student's knowledge and reviewing their academic goals. We work on building on what they already know and work systematically until we achieve their goals. I expect each student to put forth maximum effort and to believe in their own capabilities. During my free time I enjoy reading, gardening, watching, movies, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
