Experience

My first experiences tutoring were in middle school. Since I've never been paid to do it, I always found incentive to help classmates in seeing them finally master the topic at hand. From tutoring classmates in high school geometry to calculus and basic electrical circuits in college, and to now tutoring my own younger sisters through their challenges in school, I've found that I always put the most that I can into helping others experience the relief felt from grasping a subject like they never have before. This is especially true for the tricky but practice-makes-perfect-natured subject of mathematics. I've always performed above-averagely to excellently in my mathematics courses in elementary school and all the way through the math courses that I've taken in college. In high school, my highest ACT composite score was 31 (with a score of 32 in mathematics and a 35 in English), and my highest SAT score was an 1830 (with a 660 in math and a 610 in writing). Though I performed well and studied hard in my college calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra courses, I should state that I often have trouble recalling specific topics in those subjects. However, I use the fundamentals of those courses every day and must have a mastery-level grasp on algebra and geometry to be an effective engineering student. That fact is what has kept my mind mathematically sharp with high school and even middle school math. The process of being taught and creating many of my own simple tricks and ways to not memorize, but understand and retain mathematical knowledge has helped me through my struggles in my schooling, and it's my desire to share my strategies with others that are struggling that is the reason I want to be a tutor.
