I hold a PhD in European History from Yale University. My areas of concentration were the Italian Renaissance, Medieval Europe, and 19th century intellectual history. As an undergrad I majored in history with a split concentration on US and Western. I graduated cum laude from college and magna cum laude from grad school
Experience
I have 25 years experience as a college teacher primarily in departments of history, but I have also taught in depts. of English, classics and humanities. I have taught both in the US and abroad, including a year in Iraq, and have taught the full range of history courses - world, US, and western/European. I have been a prep school headmaster and am well prepared to tutor high school as well as college students. My research area is Italy with an emphasis on the Renaissance.

Hobbies
I am a diehard baseball fan(SF Giants), play guitar (poorly), read voluminously, am an avid film buff (and not in a snooty way; I like the classics of course and foreign films, but I'll watch a summer blockbuster without apology), and I drive a Maserati (also without apology, and often without looking in the rear view mirror). I have a dry sense of humor and genuinely like young people. I used to be one, myself.
