Experiences: The biggest issue I've seen my students struggle with is the 5-paragraphy essay. The method which has worked best for me is teaching the 5-paragraph essay within a 5-paragraph essay. After we've completed the introduction and the body of the essay, things will start to click and you will get it. As we begin the conclusion you will be writing it on your own. This isn't rocket science. I promise with only one or two meetings with me, you will master the 5-paragraph essay.
