I work in education because I believe it is the prime avenue through which society can forge a path to a more equitable, just, and sustainable future. As an educator, I am committed to implementing anti-oppressive pedagogies and practices within the diverse educational environments I continue to work. I believe that both children and adults learn best in environments in which they feel connected to their fellow learners, and so I actively encourage the creation of a community of learners. Here, it is my aim to have all members of the learning community become intertwined in a cycle of teaching and learning with rather than simply alongside one another. I originally entered the field of education due to the disengaging and uninspiring nature of my own educational experiences as a student in the public school system. Unfortunately, once I became a teacher, I found the same lack of engagement and inspiration in many of the schools I worked. Subsequently, I made it my personal goal to change education into a relevant, experiential, and transformational experience for my students. I seem to have found my niche in charter schools, which often provide fertile ground for such education to take place.
