Experience
I first began tutoring as a chemistry teaching assistant while obtaining my undergraduate degree in biochemistry at Georgia Regents University. During my time as an undergrad, I focused intently on organic chemistry with an emphasis on pharmacology. It was during this time that I also conducted research in medicinal chemistry at Georgia State University. After I received my bachelors I moved to study Eastern Medicine with the aim of one day practicing integrated medicine. I received my masters degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine from the World Medicine Institute. While I was studying for my masters I worked as a faculty member at Heald College. During my time at Heald I progressed from part-time, adjunct instructor to Program Director of Pharmacy Technology within 5 years. My specialties at Heald included Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacy Math, Pharmacology, and Algebra. I am currently working towards a PhD in pharmacology. I like to believe that I have an enthusiastic, adaptive teaching style. I prefer to lead discussions as opposed to reading from a presentation. I thrive on questions and I encourage my students to ask as many as they can. This challenges me as an instructor and creates an environment ripe for learning. I also feel that this sparks curiosity and interest in my students. If I had to “boil down” my teaching philosophy in one phrase it would be: “The learning never stops”. Even as an instructor I feel that I am constantly learning, especially from my students. Once my students realize that we are equals - both working towards the same goal [understanding] a type of synergism occurs whereby learning becomes almost effortless ... almost. I'm ready and willing to tutor any subject material, but my real passion and strength lies within science, especially chemistry, and mathematics. When I'm not caught up in academia I enjoy being outdoors, especially if it involves my friends. Going to the beach, BBQs, hiking, and soccer all compete for my downtime on the weekends.
