Private tutor in Phoenix, AZ

Education

I am currently an undergraduate student at Central Arizona College. I have enough credits and difficulty of classes to receive an AS degree with a 3.5 + GPA. I will apply for the degree this up coming semester

Experience

Personally I love being able to teach people. To be able to spread knowledge and allowing a person to get past their road blocks to education. In college and high school I would usually tutor for free, helping friends and those just generally struggling. Now however, I need a little extra income and felt like there would be no better way to do that than doing what I already love doing. Even though I am not a secular teacher, my teaching experience comes from being a full time volunteer minister helping many students come to a greater understanding of the bible. I have also been an official tutor in math and science for high school and to certain families in need. Pertaining to education, I have completed all maths through calculus 2 and differential equations, many sciences relevantly General Chemistry 1 and 2, and collegiate training in all Microsoft programs. I have enough credits and level of classes for an AS degree which I will apply for in the up coming semester. I am very confident in Elementary mathematics, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Calculus AB, and the introductory College Chemistry classes. I can also tutor classes that are similar including differential equations, however it will take more study on my part. My goal for each lesson is for the student to have a better understanding of the subject matter and the tools necessary to tackle similar problems with ease. I focus on why things are done, not just on how they are done. My approach will vary per student, because everyone is different; I do not believe there to be one approach for all students. I have a 36 hour cancellation policy, where half payment will have to be billed if the cancellation happens within the allotted time. However, if there is a time during the same week that works for both parties to meet then the appointment will be considered "moved", even within the 36 hour deadline. I will refer back to this policy if need be, but I am generally flexible and reasonable. Math has always been my strong suit. That being said, many can make that claim and not know how to teach the subject with any clarity. I have been helping family members, friends, work mates and complete strangers in the subject for many years. I have said before That I have completed all math through Calculus 2 and Differential Equations, being able to skip all the way through Calculus 1 in college because of a 4 on my AP Calculus AB exam in high school. Almost every time the student thanks me and say that I was much better than their former tutor or professor. When looking for someone to tutor the lower levels of math a PhD in mathematics is not needed or even advised. You need someone like me who understands how people think and will work with them. Chemistry has not always been by strong suit. However, working closely with tutors myself, I have been able to come to a good understanding of General Chemistry. Chemistry for lack of a better description is very weird, but I know how to make sense of the weirdness and explain it in ways that others can understand. I have recently received high A's in General Chemistry 1 and 2 and under the personal and enthusiastic recommendation of my professor I am applying to become a chemistry tutor for my college. A small personal note that distinguishes me from many other tutors is the fact that information has never necessarily come easy to me. I have always had to take alternate routes to learning information for my mind to really understand. Through this I have been able to grasp a full understanding of many subject allowing myself to be flexible in my approach to someone's learning, instead of being tied down to a single rigid direction. I am very patient and understand that all subjects are hard when first learning them. Everyone needs to learn, but everyone does not necessarily want to or know how to. However, I will work with either of those groups and reignite their spark of knowledge.

Hobbies

I would consider myself a nerd more than anything, but I also like to stay active. In High School I graduated with honors being inducted into the National Honor Society. However, I also participated in sports year round including basketball, football, track, field, cross country, a state swimmer and more. Interestingly enough one of my main hobbies and a large interest of mine is actually teaching others. I will commonly help family and friends with their math and science needs. I am also a full time volunteer minister, regularly teaching many about the bible.
